For over 30 years I have serviced many different types of businesses, sometimes as an Accountant, other times as a Consultant and more recently as a Financier.

Let me tell you the story about John (and yes this is based on a true story except that his name has been changed).
John was an entrepreneur; he had grand ideas, wonderful business contacts, and access to investment funds. How could he ever go wrong?

There was no pride in what he was doing anymore.
Even his computer back-ups started to fall behind and that was an accident ready to happen.
Eventually poor old John was hit by the anti-smoking legislation and many of his patrons left him. He never got his costs down quick enough to match the decline in sales and eventually couldn’t pay his bills on time, nor pay his taxes on time and eventually even his workers were left without being paid.
The bank appointed Receivers and the hotels were sold at a price to just cover the loan to the bank leaving John with absolutely nothing to show for his 40 years of work.
